The Origins of Mlech Trail

The story of Mlech Trail predates the trail itself.

In 2013, the founder embarked on an exploratory journey to San Dan District in Kampong Thom Province, within Cambodia’s Prey Lang Forest. This experience revealed the vital dependence of local communities on forest resources and biodiversity. Inspired, he continued his engagement with Prey Lang and produced two short documentaries—The Last Forest and The Trace of the Last Forest—supported by Winrock International under USAID funding. These films underscored eco-tourism’s potential as a dual mechanism for conservation and sustainable community income.
In 2017, this vision materialized with the establishment of an eco-adventure tour agency dedicated to promoting community-based tourism nationwide. In partnership with the Ministry of Tourism, the team developed national eco-tourism campaigns, adventure videos, and three consecutive annual video competitions highlighting Cambodia’s natural destinations.

The team has since played a pivotal role in developing several eco-tourism communities, including:
•  Rasmey Samaki Ecotourism (Phnom Aural)
•  Phnom Tumpor Protected Area Community
•  MonRy Protected Area Community
•  Reang Kvav Protected Area Community

Additionally, with support from LCH Family, the team designed and implemented mountain trails, shelters, and signage at key sites such as Phnom Khnong Preah, Phnom Ta KroHam Kor, Veal Thom (Vireak Chey National Park), and Mlech Trail.
From this foundation of experience and impact, Mlech Trail emerged—not merely as a trekking route, but as an accessible gateway for visitors to connect with nature and engage meaningfully with Cambodia’s evolving eco-tourism landscape

🌿 Mlech Trail is the beginning of a journey — where adventure, nature, and community meet.
